Our Mission and Organization....

The Penn State Workforce Education & Development (WED) Initiative is a partnership between Penn State’s College of Education and Penn State Outreach. The mission of the WED Initiative is to support the development of the workforce in Pennsylvania primarily through the application of Penn State resources to conduct various types of workforce assessments for employers, industry partnerships, nonprofit organizations, and government entities. Workforce Education & Development Initiative Renewed

David Monk & Craig WeidemannDavid Monk, Dean of Penn State's College of Education, and Craig Weidemann, Vice President of Penn State Outreach, recently signed an agreement that extends the Penn State Workforce Education & Development Initiative for another three years into 2012.

Interview on minimum wage increase

Centre Daily TimesAbout 15 million Americans received a small bump in pay on 24 July 2009 when the federal minimum wage increased to $7.25 an hour. In Pennsylvania, the wage increase amounted to 10 cents an hour for roughly 200,000 people. Baker Receives "Impact Pennsylvania" Award
Rose Baker Award
Rose Baker, a leader of the Penn State Workforce Education & Development Initiative, was part of the three-member Project Management for Professionals Team that won Penn State's Continuing and Distance Education 2009 award, Impact Pennsylvania, Serve the Nation, Reach the World. Wayne Smutz, Penn State Associate Vice President for Outreach, presented the award at an August 13 ceremony held on Penn State's University Park Campus.

It may take until 2016 for powdered metallurgy manufacturers to get back to the level of production they were at in 2007, said David Passmore who co-wrote a report with Rose Baker exploring what can be done to support and maintain the PM industry, particularly in light of weak car sales.
